First Aid training that meets the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (2017)

This guidance applies to all early years and childcare providers in the maintained and non maintained sectors.
The Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage requires that First Aid training must be relevant for practitioners caring for young children.

The first aid courses need to be of at least 12 hours duration.

At least one person who has a current paediatric first aid certificate must be on the premises at all times when children are present. There must be at least one person on outings who has a current paediatric first aid certificate.

Childminders and any assistant who might be in sole charge of the children for any period of time, must both hold a current paediatric First Aid certificate.

Funding for the first aid training must be met by the provider as part of their business costs.

The list below is a sample of First Aid trainers. Please contact them directly to confirm costs and availability.

Providers can organise training at their own setting and invite other providers to attend to meet minimum number of people required by the trainer. Childminders can organise training  with other childminders.

Save your staff valuable time and money with our NEW Forest Schools First Aid Course combined with Paediatric First Aid Level 3 Dual Certification Course!

It's a brand new two day (16 hour) outdoor first aid course valid for 3 years. Unlike other forest first aid courses its designed for dealing with children aged 0-12 months as well as
1 year upwards so is a true 'paediatric' recognised qualification.
It also includes the potential illnesses and injuries of young children as well as those of adult helpers.

The first aid course can be given in your nursery/school setting using the outdoor environment to enhance the training.
There is an emphasis on things like:-
  • camp fires & use of hand tools
  • children’s play
  • poisons
  • foreign objects in the eye
  • dealing with emergencies in extreme conditions such as heat and cold and remote locations
The second day is spent practising first aid scenarios outside. It is very hands-on and includes outdoor role-play scenarios, so you will need to wear suitable outdoor clothing!

Our Forest Schools Trainers are experienced outdoor practitioners, and can present discussion, practice and outdoor scenarios suited to Forest School situations and tailored to you.
