RBWM Outdoor Learning site, Windsor Great Park

The RBWM outdoor learning site is situated amongst fantastic deciduous and pine woods in the Great Park. It is available to book for the day so that a class / group of children up to the age of 11 years with their accompanying
adults can discover, explore and learn in a wonderful, outside classroom whatever the weather.

There has been some considerable development in the Forest School area since last year; and we now share the Sandpit Gate Resource Area with the Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust (BBOWT).

  • The kitchen is now an office for Sophie Axford Educational Adviser for BBOWT however we still have access to the water and sink.
  • The storage shed is now finally free of all Christmas tree paraphernalia! You can use it as you need on the day, but please return it neat and tidy for the next school or setting.
  • We have more toilets! There is a stand alone beautifully crafted cedar wood built toilet block with out-door handwashing sinks. The door handles are quite stiff so for early years children best to not shut the doors fully. The original toilet is now for adults only.
  • There is a new one way system and entrance gate.
  • A new mobile phone mast has been installed so everyone should get a signal.
The Outdoor Learning site is available March to October weekdays only; before booking a day at the Forest School site, at least two practitioners must have attended outdoor education training, Forest School Leader training or similar in order to understand the aims of outdoor learning. They must also complete a comprehensive risk assessment of the visit for your records.

There is some basic equipment available to use such as ropes, tarpaulins, cooking and fire making tools however the best resource is the forest itself.
We expect all schools, settings and childminding groups to leave the kitchen, resources and storage shed clean, tidy and how they would expect to find them.

If you would like to reserve a day please complete the booking form and email to

Please submit your requests as soon as possible to get the dates you want.

Costs:
£85 for RBWM schools and settings
£115 for non borough organisations

Cancellations will be charged unless the day can be filled by another organisation.
